Top 10 Marvel Comic Characters

Number 4

Real Name: Wade Winston Wilson
Alias: Deadpool
Team Affiliation: X-Men (Occasional)
Current Status: Active
Abilities: Regenerative healing factor, superhuman agility, stamina, reflexes, master martial artist, master swordsman, highly trained in the use of firearms
First Appearance: New Mutants #98 (Feb 1991)

Wade Wilson originally appeared as a villain in the New Mutants series, where he battled Cable, who he would soon star with in an ongoing series. He is a disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary who volunteered to be experimented on by the Weapon X program, the same program where Wolverine was given his adamantium claws and weapons training, in an attempt to cure his cancer. One of the main appeals of his character is that he is slightly unhinged, and for some off reason, he seems to think he is in a comic book, and often breaks the fourth wall to tell the audience so.

Deadpool started out as a joke character, a lesser imitation of Spider-Man, but the fact that he has managed to stay around for so long and ingratiate himself in the Marvel universe proves how strong and interesting a character he is. The fact that he knows he is in a comic always provides a fun spin on the comics, and Deadpool's erratic personality adds to his hilarity.
